In partnership with the Province of Nova Scotia, the Yarmouth & Area Chamber of Commerce is offering 3 professional development classes starting in April 2023. These 10 week courses are free, customized to your needs and provincially certified, with a value in excess of $1,500 per person.

Seats are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first served basis.

Classes will be virtual so you must have a computer with a webcam to interact properly.


Requirements

  • Must be an owner or employee of a business based in Nova Scotia.
  • Be willing to complete detailed registration form.
  • In order to graduate you must attend 80% of classes.

Excel – Level 1

Tuesdays 8:30am-12:30pm | Starting April 4th 2023 for 10 weeks

This course is for those who wish to learn how to use Microsoft Excel to build and use spreadsheets to handle data efficiently.

Topics could include:

  • Building & using spreadsheets
  • Creating & using formulas
  • Formatting & printing data
  • Charting & graphing

About Lorie Dias

Lorie received her business diploma in Computer Programming and a subsequent diploma in Human Resource. She began her career as a computer programmer at K-mart Head Office in Brampton and then continued her career progression at TD Bank. She worked with multi-million-dollar projects as a project manager and then switched career streams and became a resource manager. She continued with resource management for the remainder of her Corporate Canada career before moving to Nova Scotia to become an Entrepreneur.

Since moving to Nova Scotia, Lorie is currently running two successful businesses. Lorie has been an instructor with LAE since 2016 and is imparting her knowledge in the Microsoft Office Suite. Her love of teaching and of Excel is a grand combination for the participants in the class.


About Lisette Jones

Lisette, owner of ThinkSmart Training and Consulting, is a Harmonious Workplace Development expert who has worked with more than 60 Nova Scotia businesses. She helps create happier and more productive workplaces by enhancing trust, improving leadership, and developing communication skills. She has done countless mediation and coaching sessions with employees and studied HR through the University of New Brunswick.

This course is for those who need an entry-level knowledge of the Human Resources function and looking to feel confident in handling HR issues on a day-to-day basis.
